Beginning when the clients were expecting their first child, Chelsea Townhome has emerged from a full gut renovation as a calm and minimalist take on a classic New York brownstone.
With a preference for contemporary, nature-inspired aesthetics, wood and stone, and pieces that reflect the client’s love of travel, a previously dysfunctional layout was redefined to create a cohesive, open-plan kitchen, dining and living zone. A domed niche in the living room led to a bespoke sofa design which subsequently informed the remainder of the lower level’s design identity. The pièce de résistance is a vibrant Annie Morris sculpture that introduces effervescence and a beautiful quirk while accentuating soaring ceiling heights.
Chelsea Townhome embraces a decorative language of lightness downstairs and warmth upstairs. The primary bedroom draws inspiration from the luxe hotel experience with a 3/4 height wall at the bedhead defining a space behind for a walk-in robe. A mix of two travertines with marble verdigris renders a natural palette within light-filled volumes that host an assortment of new and old furniture, artwork and lighting pieces.
